Kappad-Beach

Around 16 km away from the main Kozhikode town, Kappad beach is a serene beach, which was discovered during the 15 century by Vascoda Gama, the Portuguese explorer. Away from the chaos of the city, this beach is ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation. Unique rock formations are scattered on all sides. Some of these rocks even protrude from the sea. Kozhikode-Backwaters

Krishna Menon Museum

Krishna Menon Museum at Kozhikode has an exclusive wing dedicated to the renowned statesman late V. K. Krishna Menon, that displays his personal belongings and souvenirs. Adjacent to the museum is an art gallery with an excellent collection of paintings by Raja Ravi Varma and Raja Raja Varma. Krishna Menon Museum lies very close to Kozhikode town. It is just 7 km away from the town. While the museum is well noticed for its collection of paintings of acclaimed artists like Raja Raja Varma and Raja Ravi Varma, a special wing of the museum is dedicated to late V.K. Krishna Menon, a national leader from the state who became the Defense Minister of India. This section displays the personal belongings of Mr. Menon, after whom the museum is named. Saravoram-Park

Sarovaram lies at the center of city, located besides the NH Bypass which connects Eranjipalam and Baby Memorial Hospital Junction, besides the Canoly Canal.The project, spanning over 200 acres, covers Kottuli in Kozhikode city along with the villages of Vengeri and Kasaba. The government has decided to go ahead with the construction of the project in phases. The first phase being the Biopark, has been completed and open for the public.A government undertaking, the Park has been constructed in traditional Kerala style, having an ecofriendly theme in order to promote tourism thereby conserving the area. The wetlands along with the mangrove forest are in majority. The region provides a natural habitat for a variety of birds including both water birds and land birds. With all the species of migratory water birds, residential birds, and the rich fauna found there it is a delight for birdwatchers and naturalists. The biodiversity makes this sanctuary a promising hotpot for ecotourism. The biopark also provides entertainment to its visitors. The entertainment arena consists of the canal walkway, facility for boating, the Otter Park, the Butterfly Park, the bird sanctuary, the aquarium, coracles, floating rafts, boardwalk, park musical fountain, an open air theatre, Interpretation centre, the many more. From the railway station, head in the north from the railway station 4th platform road towards the old railway over bridge. Once you pass by the Mathrubhumi Employees Multi Purpose Society Limited on the left, take a slight right at Latha Arts onto PT Usha road. As you pass the CMI St. Thomas Church on the left, turn left at Vespa onto EdapallyPanvel highway where you cross the HP on the right. Take right at the Jayashree Bank onto Nadakkavu Cross road, and you pass the Bharath Petroleum on the right. Tali Temple

The Tali Temple situated in the heart of the Kozhikode Town, about one kilometer east of the Railway Station and a treasure house of historical memorable is under the Trusteeship of the Zamorin of Calicut. The founding and prosperity of Kozhikode town is closely linked with the sanctity of this ancient temple. The Jyothirlingam in the sanctum Sanctorum of the Temple was installed towards the end of Dwaparayuga by Sri. Parasurama, who was responsible for the creation of Kerala, by retrieving the land from the sea by throwing his powerful axe from the top of Sahyadri, The posture in the sanctumsanctorum is that of Umamaheswara. Though this divine power existed from time immemorial, the attention of the citizens of Kozhikode was (bestowed on the temple) only by about 1500 years ago. It reached its zenith during the rule of the Zamorins, who had the prestigious title Sailabdheswara (The lord of the mountain and the sea). The platform facing the sanctumsanctorum, the four walls skirting the sanctumsanctorum with the lighted lamps on all the four sides, Dwajastambam, Anakottil (flagstaff platform for elephants) the gopurams (large entrance gate), Deepasthambhum (pillars of lighting) and large outer walls are all there in the grand temple. Tali Ganapathy, Thevarathil Ganapathy, Thrumandhakunnu Bhagavathy, are all the additional deities located in the inner walls of the temple. Outside the inner wall, but within the temple premises are Lord Ayyappa in the south west. Thevarathil Bhagavathy just behind Lord Ayyappa and Naga in the west, facing in the eastern direction. In the north eastern side, just outside the Siva Temple premises, but inside the four wall of the temple, there is a separate Vishnu temple with a Dwajastambam of its own. Besides there is a small temple dedicated to Narasimha Moorthy in the southern side of the Vishnu Temple. Inside the compound and north of this also Eranjipuram. Inside the four walls of the Sreekrishna Temple, there is also the presence of Sreevalayanad Bhagavati. So with its special architectural beauty and the presence of several Gods and Goddesses in the premises, this great temple has special significance of its own. This temple also got a special place in the cultural history of Kerala. It was here that Revathi Pattathanam, a sort of seminar on Bharatha Meemamsa, Prabhakara Meemamsa, Vedanta Meemamsa and vyakarana were conducted. Eminent pandits and philosopher from far and near used to participate in this unique function. This is still being conducted annually here. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, eighteen and a half poets used to assemble here. Now, it has come to such a stage that an immediate repair, particularly renovation of the sanctumsanctorum has become an absolute necessity. The two storied sanctumsanctorum which is in the shape of a chariot is adorned with decorative mural paintings on the walls and the sculptures in granite of lord Siva      Book Now
