Ayyanar Falls

Ayyanar Falls are located 10 km west of Rajapalayam, city and municipality in Virudhunagar District in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. It is situated in the Western Ghats, which gets its water source mainly during the North East monsoon rain. Ayyanar Falls are a part of the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats of the south. The source of water to these falls is the monsoon rains in the region. The water of the cascade is believed to be very pure and hence used by the nearby villages for drinking purpose. These waters are also used for irrigation in the surrounding areas, by the local farmers. The area near the Ayyanar falls is ideal for woodland mountain climbing for the tourists. The falls is one of the main attractions of Rajapalayam, and is a famous tourist spot for the people living in East part of Virudhunagar District, especially Srivilliputtur and Sivakasi. It provides good opportunity for woodland mountain climbing. A dam is situated on the way to Ayyanar Falls which provides water for the whole city.      Book Now



Madavar Vilagam Vaidyanathar temple

This is a old Sivan temple which was recently renovated. This temple is located in NH 208 highway. This temple has Sanctum Sanctorum of Lord Siva, Lord Pillaiyar, Lord Murugan, Lord Aiyappan, Goddess Parvathi. This temple has 2 ponds located on either sides of the entrance. Good to feed the fishes. Every month the local residents perform Vizaku Poojai. Nice temple, walkable distance from andal temple. Not many shops nearby. Only local town buses will stop at this point or else you can prefer diesel share auto. Temple has Shiva, Amman, Vinayagar and Murugar. Nearby theerthams were empty during my visit.This temple is in Rajapalayam Road, very old one made of granite. There is a pond near to the temple and there are lot of fish in it, you can feed bread. Temple car is worn out and its in a depleted state. Temple is well maintained, its huge and will need about an hour to visit.The temple priests perform the puja (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. Like other Shiva temples of Tamil Nadu, the priests belong to the Shaiva community, a Brahmin sub-caste. The temple rituals are performed six times a day; Ushathkalam at 7 a.m., Kalasanthi at 8:00 a.m., Uchikalam at 10:00 a.m., Sayarakshai at 5:00 p.m., Irandamkalam at 7:00 p.m. and Ardha Jamam at 8:00 p.m. Each ritual comprises four steps: abhisheka (sacred bath), alangaram (decoration), naivethanam (food offering) and deepa aradanai (waving of lamps) for both Vaidyanathar and Sivakami Amman. The worship is held amidst music with nagaswaram (pipe instrument) and tavil (percussion instrument), religious instructions in the Vedas (sacred texts) read by priests and prostration by worshippers in front of the temple mast. There are weekly rituals like somavaram (Monday) and sukravaram (Friday), fortnightly rituals like pradosham and monthly festivals like amavasai (new moon day), kiruthigai, pournami (full moon day) and sathurthi.The twin festivals celebrated during the full moon days of Tamil month Adi.      Book Now



Shenbaga Thoppu

henbagathoppu Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary is just eight kilometres from Srivilliputhur, which is one of the best tourist places in Tamilnadu. and is also one of the wildlife sanctuaries in Tamilnadu. The Shenbaga Thoppu Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over a vast area measuring 480 square kilometres. It was built in 1989 at the Shenbaga thopu village of the Srivilliputtur taluk in the Virudhunagar district of Tamilnadu. "Thoppu" in Tamil means "grove", or natural cluster of similar trees, and this place is one of most primitive natural groves of Tamilnadu. One of the features of this wildlife sanctuary is that it is contiguous or connected on its south western border with the Periyar Tiger Reserveas well as with the Megamalai Reserve Forest on the north-western. The altitude of this place ranges from 100 to 2010 metres above the sea level. The sanctuary fosters and shelters the Grizzled Giant Squirrel (Ratufa Macrora) which is an endangered and arboreal animal nowadays.      Book Now
