Avalanche Lake

Avalanche Lake, Ooty. Avalanche Lake (Avalanchi lake) is located 28 kilometers from Ooty in the Nilgiris district in TamilNadu. The lake is located at a distance of 28 kms from Ooty in the Nilgiris. It was formed naturally in the year 1823 due to a massive landslide and therefore is named as Avalanche lake. Small waterfalls falling down from the encircling mountains creates a picture perfect ambience. The surrounding forests are so dense that even sunlight cannot penetrate through them. Also called as Avalanchi, this lake is mostly visited after monsoons as the high water level offers great opportunity for trout fishing. Fishing rods and other equipments can be taken from a trout hatchery located near the lake. Other activities like trekking and camping are also popular among tourists. Visitors should note that as the lake is situated in the Nilgiri Biosphere reserve, prior permission is needed from the forest office in Ooty.      Book Now



Doddabetta

Doddabetta is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills at 2,637 metres. There is a reserved forest area around the peak. It is 9 km from Ooty, on the Ooty-Kotagiri Road in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, South India. Doddabetta is the highest peak in the Nilgiris and is a wonderful trekking spot if you are an avid trekker. When you reach the characteristic flat top of the Doddabetta what awaits you is a visual treat of the surrounding Nilgiris. Being the highest peak you can get a bird’s eye view of the entire area and all that you see is green, green and more green. In the middle of all the green you find the beautiful city of Ooty miniaturized by the grandeur of nature. Kamaraj Sagar Dam

The Kamaraju Sagar Dam is in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu state in India. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the Ooty bus stand. It is a picnic spot and a film shooting spot on the slopes of the Wenlock Downs The Kamraj Sagar dam is also often visited by nature study groups because of the different variety of flora and fauna that you find here and that too, up close. The place has emerged as one of the favorite picnic spots even for the local people. But please don’t go there if you are planning to spend a quiet evening with your family. This place is one of the most frequented places by the tourists due to the ease of accessibility of the place from Ooty. Nevertheless the place is good to visit especially during the winter season, when the mist settles on the top of the water, with the mountains and forests in the back drop. Additionally the chirping of birds from inside the forest makes a perfect mystic setting which you will definitely enjoy. Ooty Botanical Gardens

One of the most beautiful attractions in Ooty is the Botanical Garden, situated on a hillock. Spread over 55 acres the Botanical Garden was laid out in the year 1847 by the Marquis of Tweedale. The garden is taken care of by the Horticulture Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Botanical Garden has well maintained beautiful lawns and trees collected from different parts of the world. It also has an assortment of several flowering plants and herbal plants. The garden is divided into various sections namely, New Garden, Lower Garden, and Italian Garden, amongst others. These gardens have about a thousand varieties, both exotic and indigenous, of plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, medicinal and bonsai plants. The Botanical Garden is home to several rare species of trees such as the cork tree, the monkey puzzle tree, and the paper bark tree. The cork tree is probably one of its kind in India. There is also an old fossillised tree trunk displayed over here, which is estimated to be 20 million years old. The Italian Garden, borders a lily pond with several varieties of aquatic plant species.      Book Now
